Singer and songwriter John Denver touched millions of people. He also achieved the status of a superstar with his folk-based pop songs most of which were based in Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, he was in love with Colorado and eventually settled in Aspen. Denver's anthems of fame about Colorado are a source of inspiration for many to move to the state. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame said that John Denver is the only musician to truly embody Colorado. Denver was the Hall of Fame's initial inductee, was honoured by the honor in 2011. Today he personifies the state to people around the world. Certainly in my travels you come across someone on the opposite end of the planet, or someone from New Zealand and you say 'I'm from Colorado and the first word that comes out of their mouth is"Oh John Denver! Brown said. Take Me Home Country Roads written by co-writer Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo singer after a brief stint in small folk bands. Danoff had written the song in the spirit of Johnny Cash, but Denver was able to hear the song's early versions and was aware that it would become one of the Top 10 hits. Danoff recorded the song a couple of days after performing at Washington D.C. before an crowd that was extremely enthusiastic.
